Roots and Wings.

Our wedding was what I like to call "Modern Old South."
The reception took place at the Paul and LuLu Hilliard Art Museum and A. Hays Town house on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus. The original museum was built in 1967 by the nationally celebrated Southern architect A. Hays Town and was designed after the 1812 Hermitage Plantation in Darrow, Louisiana. The new museum directly contrasts as well as compliments the old museum. The new museum has a fourth wall of glass that reflects the old museum during the day and casts a blue light every evening, creating a dynamic juxtaposition between old and new that is visually striking.
I thought there was no place more fitting for a wedding than a space that is the new and modern counterpart arising from an older structure; the new modernized museum speaks to the past and pays homage to its predecessor by reflecting the former museum in its glass wall. When looking at the old building it is visually heavier than the new museum and almost feels "rooted to the ground" while the new building seems to float above the ground...

Roots and Wings, people. Roots and Wings.

Wonderfully Romantic

Over the weekend I visited one of my favorite blogs, Style Me Pretty, and found this wonderfully romantic Gatsby inspired, springtime wedding. GORGEOUS! I'm loving the freshness of white paired with green, and the peachy-nude colors that she incorporated help to keep her wedding feeling soft and romantic instead of the stark, crisp feeling you sometimes get from pairing white and green alone. I think this is just what a garden-themed springtime wedding should be- lush, romantic, and soft- but I'll let you decide for yourself.

Stylish Organization

I don't know about you, but I've been in an organizational frenzy lately! Maybe its the fact that suddenly, as a new bride who is living with her hubby for the first time, we have an over abundance of stuff (read: CRAP) in the house and nowhere to put it. Maybe its because I'm a little OCD and a lot ADD and I feel like to stay focused I need things to be neat and organized. It could even be because I'm attracted to bright, new, shiny objects and want things displayed prettily throughout my new home. I think its a combination of the three.
Enter Russell+Hazel: an Organizational Nerd's dream come true.

I received their new 2011 catalog in the mail a couple of days ago and I've been drooling over it ever since.

Their Binders are PHENOMENAL! Each one has a dry-erase interior, a spine made of linen or patent leather, and a massive rubber band to hold everything together. They even make them in a Mini version! (I'm a sucker for anything miniature!) And they have an abundance of paper and accessories you can add to your binder to make it completely customized!

Their Wedding Organizer set SAVED MY LIFE while I was planning my wedding! Seriously, take it from someone who was planning her wedding while traveling between two cities at least twice a week, working, and going on interviews for a new job- this thing is a LIFESAVER!!! You can even download free wedding PDF templates to add to the Wedding Organizer on their website! It is fabulous!
